Ceredigion C.C. wished to redevelop a former coal carbonisation
gasworks to create school playing fields as part of a PFI project.
We initially undertook a comprehensive desk study and subsequently
designed a site investigation to enable a quantified risk assessment
to be completed.
Geophysics were used to establish the locations of buried structures and trial
pits/boreholes provided soil and water samples. The quantified risk
assessment allowed an outline remediation strategy to be developed.
Following this project, ExCAL were again
commissioned by Ceredigion C.C. to provide environmental impact
assessments for improvements on the A485 and various points along
the A486; these were at Horeb Crossroads, Croeslan, Ffostrasol and
Capel Cynon. Detailed ecological surveys were undertaken to supplement
the EIAs.
ExCAL were commissioned by Ceredigion C.C.
to provide a detailed quantified risk assessment for three former
lead mines in mid Wales. Historical studies, an archaeological study
and ecological studies were undertaken in order to allow site investigations
to be designed.
Protected lichen species were present on some of the sites, and
the sites all lay adjacent to rivers. A cost benefit analysis was
undertaken to identify the effects that could be anticipated on
fauna for various remediation strategies.
We have also carried out detailed asbestos surveys on a series
of schools and other public buildings within Ceredigion.
